    Recommend me newsgroups

I'm been on newshosting for years but they seem to be a bit slow and a few of my mates have jumped to astraweb.
I'm after an unlimited package... Are astraweb any good or are there any other alternatives that are better?

Also, how easy is it for me to change - Do I lose any time during the 'change over?'

i have giganews which is great full speed on my connection but is pricey compared with astraweb.

Check out the providers because people like giganews are resellers as far as I know. I went with astraweb after trying loads of different providers. Their metered packages are very good.

I have GigaNews - had had them for years - their retention and completion are brilliant - plus you can suspend your account when you go on holiday for example - not that I ever have. :-)

I had no idea they were resellers. Any idea who they are reselling?

Hmm, maybe I was wrong. Sure I read it somewhere a while back. When I used giganews I found them to have some stuff removed pretty sharpish, which means I could never actually get it. Haven't had that problem with Astraweb as yet.

            I used http://usenetserver.com/en/index.php?

Fast, reasonable price. Free trial, 3 day accounts.

I used easynews for quite a while, then switched over to newshosting for a time.

I'm on giganews now though, who I have been with for a long time - I've never had issues with speed or completion. The names mentioned so far in this thread have all been going for quite some time too. Give any a try, most offer a free trial.

Lol, I was going to post something similar....

Why would I want to pay to use a newsgroup? Do they have any legitimate use? What benefits do they offer over say, torrenting (which is free)/downloading stuff for free from megaupload-esque websites, aside from what torrents already offer (such as pausing downloads etc)?

Paid for usenet subscriptions allow WAAAAYYYY faster downloads than torrents. Plus secure connections plus torrents kinda require you to upload thus allowing you to be prosecuted. If you download lots of things you shouldn't then a usenet subscription is well worth it.

I use http://www.astraweb.com/ been using them for ages, theres normally offers floating around the web to get em cheaper also. They have 2 servers you can use normal one and a EU one, I switch em up depending on time of day for faster DL. (Not that the EU one suffers to much in prime time).
