    Good PC speakers?

    Hi there,

Basically I need a decent set of speakers for my PC. I only want stereo, perhaps maybe a centre channel, but I dont need surround sound (read, no space for rear channels).

    Must come in black though

Any help would be very much appreciated

I got some sexy looking harmon/kardon speakers from PC world about a year ago now, 2 L/R speakers and an active sub.

gives a lovely sound without filling up your desk space, and looks ****-hot to boot, they were ?50 reduced from ?200 O_o

but, tbh, theyre never worth ?200 imho.

Does anyone know of good quality stereo PC speakers in the ?50-?100 range? Not too bothered about colour.

Buy proper Hi-Fi speakers they are much better. I have my PC going through my Hi-Fi and it can go so much louder, without becoming distorted, than with PC speakers. I can't really tell sound quality difference at low sound levels but it really has an effect at higher volumes.

          I've got a set of these :-

          Altec ATP3 250w pmpo 2:1.

?57 is very cheap for what you get, when I got mine it was much more and there are loads of reviews about these speakers saying they are (or were) the best 2.1 's for the money. They look puny but really sound big, the main speakers fire downwards and are in the base of the units so its just the tweaters that you can see in the uprights.

Fantastic sound through them, have a audigy 2 card as well, which i must say sounded great through the crap speakers i had before even!, make sure you get a decent sound card otherwise your money is wasted on speakers.

I wouldn't trust any amplifier that tells you its power in pmpo rather than the correct RMS value. PMPO is this daft thing that manufacturers regularly make up their own rules about, and so frankly means nothing. For instance, my first link on google showed a two-speaker, 10 watts per channel system that claimed 160 watts PMPO. The second also showed 160W PMPO, but only 2.6W RMS.

At the end of the day, you'll always get the best sound by just buying the relevant leads to hook it to your hifi.

I have been looking to get some i-trique creative speakers (2.1) because they look fantastic and would match my TFT/shuttle setup.

              Here is a link:

I am not sure how good they are though, maybe someone has some experience with them?
