    Recommend me a laptop!

Me and the missus are looking to ditch our old pc's and get a space saving laptop. Itll be plugged in most of the time so battery life isn't too much of an issue.

Don't really know what I need in terms of specs, it'll be used mostly for browsing, downloading, iTunes and a bit of gaming for me. Ideally I like to be able to play Day Z (arma 2) and Diablo 3 comfortably, as well as a few of my old classics.

With a bit of luck id like to have it half decent for a few years, and my price bracket is about ?350-400. Am I asking too much?

Help would be appreciated! Thanks peeps!

You're not going to get a laptop that can play Arma 2 and Diablo 3 comfortably in that price bracket I'm afraid.

If I were you I wouldn't even consider gaming really.

Either of these seem like nice machines.

This would be the minimum entry level laptop that could play games sort of well, but I really can't say for Diablo 3.

Any higher and you'd need a laptop with a dedicated GPU for gaming, which isn't something I'd personally want myself, but isn't so bad if you just want a desktop replacement.

What about this-- my mate says is really good for the price?

That integrated graphics processor is quite low end, you will definitely need a modern dedicated mobile GPU to play those games, DAYZ runs on Arma II which is quite demanding for reasonable desktops even.

Starting to think it may be better/cheaper to get a decent desktop!

Perhaps, I dont know to recommend this Laptop directly, but the 630M card is probably around what you'd need in a laptop

Benchmark shows it can handle Diablo III well on medium settings

Though true, for the money you could probably get a desktop that would smoke it.

Diablo 3 is a pain in the arse. I have a decent i5 laptop and it runs like crap on it.

It requires a lot more power to run smoothly than you'd think it would really.

It's a modern game and most laptop graphics cards are only capable of running less complex/older games.
                That's about it really.

I gave up trying to find a laptop that was gonna be able to run games ok-ish, but ultimately unless I was going to spend ?1200 I couldn't bea the performance of a ?300 desktop

Get a Ivy Bridge i5 laptop, the integrated GPU in those should handle Diablo 3 pretty ok.

Nothing mobile can handle Diablo 3 right now (I'm talking about 60FPS/V-Sync/1920x1080) unless you want to spend crazy money on SLI capability - trust me on that. Wait until next year's revisions, or do what I should have done and build a desktop.

Avoid these opinions AT ALL COSTS, by 'medium settings' they mean a non-native, reduced resolution, which looks like ball sauce.

Altering D3's video settings has little to no effect, unless you do what I've had to do and spend a week modifying your nVidia drivers.

Please trust me on all this, I went through three months of research finding the 'perfect' laptop and I've almost literally had to go through HELL to get 60FPS at native res without tearing. Even a GTX675m would require an overclock to get 60FPS throughout 80% of the game.

No, it won't, not at all.

Arma 2 is hungry as well. Knocking down the gfx does have some effect but it's CPU hungry. Keeping track of you, 49 other players and 800 AI zombies takes grunt.
