USB mouse & keyboard stopped working.

    Arrrgh bloody computer.

Have a Acer aspire pc & just turned it on this evening & the keyboard & mouse are dead, none of the usb ports on it seem to work once windows xp loads up.

However they keyboard does work when in the bios screen so the usb ports do work or it wouldn't work in there. How in the hell do i fix this?? I have tried rebooting in various modes in xp but even safe mode wont let my mouse work so i cant go fiddling with usb options.

Microsoft are the usual unhelpful crap of oh you need to goto this & this setting, err yeah cant quite do that when i have no way of navigating windows.

Any other USB device you can try, just to see if the OS recognizes them? If it doesn't maybe the USB drivers got screwed up somehow.
Disable the USB ports from the BIOS, get to Windows, shutdown, enable USB ports and back to Windows; this should make the OS install standard USB drivers for the "new" ports, or at least tell you something about missing drivers.
Have you recently changed configuration, even installed anything? Sounds like when Starforce protection locked up CD drives.

Does your motherboard have a PS/2 port and you still got a PS/2 keyboard or mouse around? You might want try with those to see if device manager and the event log show any useful information.
