An odd one this (although hopefully not to someone here!) and Google hasn't bee much help.
I have recently bought a Sony Vaio Laptop, equipped with a BR Drive and a Nvidia GeForce 410m video card. As an owner of a region A BR palyer, I wanted to connect the Vaio to m amp and run some region B's on it; Mrs.S would not tolerate another box under the TV!!
I have a Toshiba Regza TV and a Yamaha RX-V565 amp. connected to each other via HDMI.
I can connect the Vaio to the amp (via HDMI) and get 5.1. No probs setting it up and the test tone indicates all is good, with the amp recognized as an option.
The problem arises when I turn on the TV, the amp disappears as an audio device and only the TV is shown, giving me 2.0 sound. If I turn the TV off, 5.1 is back and the Vaio "sees" the amp again. Somehow the TV is overriding the amp as an option/audio device...
I know surround sound isn't the be all, but I would like to use my kit properly...
Any help/guides/ideas gratefully received!
