interestingly if I plug the spare analog av out part of the cable in my N64 and switch it on I get a perfect picture on the trinitron of the panny Q (albeit split into 4! )

Oh right. Does the cable you have include composite plugs? You'll need to plug in the composite video to get sync.

          Yeah, that would work too.

Connect those to the back of the Q and you're laughing.

            I'm not laughing
Just red/black flickering picture- no sound / no picture.
I have the digital av out plugged in the q as well as red/black/yellow composite into various parts of the q.
            Scart in back of tv.
(analog av part of the cable nowhere to go so hanging loose!)

Could you take a pic of the whole cable?

Sorry if this is what you tried.

                    Yeah, tried that earlier.
maybe my composite cable is naff. (very cheap thin wires) - not sure if that would be a deal breaker tho.

Hmm, well, that's how it would work. Maybe check the connection of pin 8 on the SCART plug too.

scart seems fine, work on my modded gc.
Think it must be the composite cables- may have to buy some through ebay.

                          Update - new composite cables.
Got a black/white picture briefly. Then lost signal- sound still there obviously.
                          I'm officially stuck.

Ok, I actually tried plugging in my Q last night with the "dead" cable. I don't have anywhere to stick the two phono jacks for sound right now, but what I can say is that with the scart plugged in, the unit definitely powers up, and there is obviously some kind of activity, as the TV was displaying a HDMI picture, and when the Q boots in 'Game' mode the TV switched automatically to the channel. This is about as good a diagnosis as I can offer...

Speedy, you think you'd be up for taking a look at it? If not that's fine

That proves some voltage is being provided to the cable, I think.

Undo the SCART plug and take a picture, possibly. Check for loose connections.

The switching voltage is working by the sounds of it. It could be as simple as something coming loose within the modded part of the cable or the DAC could be dead. The switching voltage part of the Q mod is seperate from the DAC.

If speedlolita cant take a look I might be able to have a glance if required.
