PC problems.. more help please :)

Hi there,

Got a problem with Windows (Pro).

Randomly, the computer will turn itself off and then reboot. I turned off automatic shutdown, and the blue screen comes up with "End of Physical memory dump" or something similar.

On reboot, a windows box is there, saying "this computer has recovered from a serious error".

Anyone know what this problem is? I read in PC gamer of all places that this is a known problem fixed by service pack 1 (which I dont have) but im not so sure..

Any help please?

I take it you mean Windows 2000 Pro? Or is it XP Pro?

Either way there is a known virus which randomly reboots your PC. Forget what it's called but you should run a full virus scan on your PC. If you haven't got up to date AV software installed you can do a free online check at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Hey, do you mean the blast virus? Got rid of that..

Running XP pro, and have also ran Stinger, which shows up with nothing untoward...

Any help? Got Max Payne 2 sitting here itching to be given some time

Can I ask what, if any, system changes you have made recently which could be causing the problem (new hardware, operating system upgrade etc).

Its a completely new system mate, everything brand new, built from scratch!

You need to make sure that your board is set up correctly, including the speed of your Front Side Bus (FSB) which can either be an option in the BIOS or a physical jumper switch on your board.

If it's set wrong you can have all sorts of issues, as I discovered last time I upgraded.
