Hard to capture a CRT screen I know but it definitely looks better. Geometry and colour.

      Not to sound stupid, but...

How and where does one get one's TV calibrated?

      How much does it cost?

What does it involve? Fiddling with the innards?

I was given a massive widescreen CRT for free, and there's some bizarre warping effects when bright white is onscreen, and it's clearly not at its best. It's a great TV though, so I'd like to get it done too.

Presumably you need to visit a specialist who opens it up and jiggers the guts about?

I had our very own Lyris calibrate my TV. He didn't have to open up the TV and brings all the required equipment to your house. All of the things that are altered are in software either in the regular TV menus or hidden away in the service menu.

True of a consumer set at least, which would be the case for you Sketcz.

Why must you make me kidnap again.

Bit of a stretch though, unless he wants a hols in France.

You joke, but I've met some surprising people who have that misconception!

Fortunately fiddling with the (physical) innards isn't needed anymore, now it's "jiggering by wire", the controls are in the service menu. Modern HDTVs tend to have the calibration controls in the user menu (White Balance, Gamma, Colour Mangement/Colour Space).

Tip to solve the warping with bright white for free though: just turn Contrast down. That's very likely to fix that particular problem.

Bit of a stretch though, unless he wants a hols in France.
Hmmm - that's not impossible actually! Are you further down south in the (comparative) warmth?

I do also keep getting asked to go to Paris as well (I know that's not the only city in France...) so that's a possibility. If I can't make it across, I'm sure there are some Imaging Science Foundation techs near you too who I could find for you.

No, I live in the vertical middle, surround by farmland. Will try the contrast suggestion - cheers.

The software was CalMan 5 but what meter was used to calibrate the pvm? does anyone know?
