    Bad week for consoles

Until now I've had all three latest gen consoles working without a hitch...

    This week:
    - 360: red ring of d000m (3/4 lights, only top right is not lit, doesn't get further than a black screen)
    - PS3: no longer plays disks, just spins them then returns to the dash
    - Wii: can't play any DVDs... ok, maybe that's a feature, but I hadn't tried until today

    Verdict?

Is the 360 typically beyond repair?
PS3 failing to run disks is a common thing? Fixable?

I will, of course, look into all this myself. Just thought I'd post into the collective wisdom.

360 has a 3 year warranty for RROD.

Yeah the Wii doesn't read DVDs. Wii games aren't on DVD.

The Wii does read DVD. Wii games are on DVD. Wii does not have the license or software to play DVD-video. Though you can enable that feature with homebrew.

If only it had happened in 2009.

Looks like the WiiU doesn't play anything either?

Wii U does not have DVD or Blu-ray playback capabilities. The reason for that is that we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn't warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.
... and that means the WiiU is not an option.

Possibly just need to give the Wii laser a clean.

You mean the PS3? Maybe I'll try that over the weekend.
