connecting a UK bought notebook to a Japanese televsion??

Hi All, I have recently moved to Japan from the UK and I want to connect my Fujitsu Amilo D notebook to my Japanese Toshiba TV. Both appliances have a S-video out port but I notice that my Japanese TV's S-video port is 4 pin while my notebook PC's S-video port has more pins. Can I just plug in a 4 pin cable each end or will this not work due to PAL/NTSC differences? Do I need a special cable perhaps? If not does anyone know how I connect my UK notebook to my Japanese TV?

    Thanks,

    hope that you can help

From taking a look at my PS2 s-video lead I'm using, it appears that there are only four pins actually used (not including the outer rim, which I imagine is another connection of some sort). There is another (rectangular shaped...), but that is terminated in black plastic, so I'm guessing it doesn't do anything!

I can't claim to have any special knowledge, but it seems that you should be okay with a four pin cable.

You should be able to connect it to your Japanese TV as long as you set the output signal for the second display (should be in display settings somewhere) to NTSC. Using a proggie such as TVTool might help also if you have the appropriate hardware...

You sure that's not a keyboard port? They look like s-video connectors but have more pins.

Thanks PriestJPN, I have found the second display menu but it shows the TV as greyed out even when I have connected it to my laptop. Is there anything that I have to do to get it to recognise that the TV is plugged in to my video out? Incidentally what's TV Tool, how would that help? Thanks

Make sure the TV is on and connected before you turn on the laptop and see if that makes a difference.

TVTool is a small program that controls the TV-Out function of some gfx chipsets and it may be easier to use than fiddling with the usuall PC settings. It might not support your gfx hardware, so bare that in mind. I guess there is other similar software around too..
