    Frame rate playback

Hey, bit of a daft question perhaps (thought id post it in audio-visual not PC too)

Ive been recording some footage in-game on fraps, using the settings 60fps (which the game is running at constantly) and half-size, mainly because i don't need 1920x1080 sized movies. Anyhow it all works fine, and fraps does it stuff and im left with a nice collection of 960x540 movies at 60fps in my folder.

However, when I watch them back, i start to feel strange, sort of sea sick (and no its not my gameplay). Even though I was playing the game at that frame rate for some reason as I watch them back it doesn't 'feel' right, it feels just on the edge of to fast and i start to get motion sickness. I just wondered if this is just an optical effect in my brain or if there's some kind of discrepancy with halving the resolution size on record, perhaps things don't sync right and its that which gives me the willies.

Or I could just be going insane at 3am

Might be going insane at 3am.

When I use fraps I use the 29.97fps setting, stuff looks fine.

I doubt the resolution (which in this case is the spatial resolution) will have any impact on that.

Perhaps it's the psychological effect of seeing something at that frame rate without being part of the constant feedback loop of controlling the game and seeing your actions reflected on screen?

Could be what Lyris says. When I used to watch my Quake 3 matches, I sometimes felt.. Odd. Not motion sickness per se, as I've never got that in any situation (gaming or otherwise) but it felt very disorienting watching the speed I moved and looked around whilst being detached from the controls.

Ah, perhaps its just that kind of playback effect and in my own minds-eye so to speak, well glad i'm not the only one, at any rate

Does it feel better if you have an unconnected keyboard and mouse and jam the buttons as you watch the video?
