    Windows 8 won't let me save in Program Files

    Can anyone tell me how I can save files to C:\Program Files (x86) without the OS harassing me?

    I'm doing a lot of editing of program config files and it's a nightmare. Windows 7 didn't hold my hand this way and just let me edit. How do I do the same on 8?

    I've tried looking in Properties > Security and it's all grayed out. So tired of not being able to use my own computer :/

    Launch the app that will be doing the saving as Administrator e.g. Launch text editor as admin and you'll be able to save a file in C:\Program Files

      You have disabled UAC right?

        Yes, UAC is off.

        FSW: thanks for the suggestion, it seems to be the only way? Do I have to launch basically every program is an administrator then? There's no way to turn this off? I'm hesitant to do so because it makes some programs behave differently.

        For example with Notepad++ running as an admin, I can't drag files into it anymore to open them. I have to do it the File > Open way...

          Win+R and type secpol.msc to run security policy

          local policies->security options

          Go to User Account Control: Run all administractors in admin approval mode and disable it.

          reboot

          That should do the job.

          Not that metro apps will no longer run. at all. I see this as a bonus but YMMV!

                Hey all
                Sorry to bump, but I've upgraded to Windows 10 and now secpol.msc doesn't work anymore.
                Does anyone have any idea how to fix this in 10?
