Getting Component / HDMI out of a Dreamcast

The good news is I have a VGA box.

But what to do from there? I would have assumed that I need a converter box like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adapter-VG...-/350559106211
Then I saw a cable like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12ft-SVGA-...-/280910621511 - I'm not sure if it's too good to be true or not. If it works, why would I need the more expensive converter box in the first link?

My projector (Sanyo Z2) component supports Y/Pb/Pr and Y/Cb/CR, for what it's worth.

I use a HDMI to DVI lead on my PS3 daily (when the missus wants to watch crap on TV and I need to use a monitor basically), leads have increased greatly over the years, is there a VGA to component one on Amazon you can check the quality of reviews of? Why complicate things when a lead will do.

The Z2 will take VGA over the DVI connector, so you just want a vga cable for the dreamcast and then a cable to convert that to the DVI socket.

I have totally confused things by putting in my set-up in my original post sorry.
Ignore DVI, that's just what I use to connect my PS3 to a monitor. Topper doesn't want to use DVI.

Topper, check out some VGA to Component lead reviews on Amazon and if they get good reviews don't see why one won't do the job. You can get good quality leads to convert almost anything to anything for under a tenner nowadays.

Well, that's what I'm asking. I've heard a lot of stories of people getting annoyed at these leads not working, as they output RGB not Y/Pb/Pr. I'm just trying to find out what the font of all knowledge.

Having said that though, I could try gIzzE's idea. The problem is that my DVI socket is currently occupied with an DVI-HDMI dongle, and an HDMI connection to the output of my AV receiver. Everything else that goes into the HDMI is HDCP over DVI, not RGB over DVI, so even if it did work I'd have to adjust the projector every time.

Maybe I just ditch HDMI completely. The only thing that forces me to use it over component is my HTPC has HDMI out (as well as DVI). I have no way of connecting that up via component...

I am so confused, and I haven't answered my OP.

You can buy a fairly cheap vga->component convertor and go straight in component.

Probably the easiest.

Incidentally, I bought a VGA+audio to HDMI converter today for use with my DC VGA Box. It works great! I can't vouch for it being the highest possible quality but I don't know if it can get any better actually. It really looks good and is much better than RGB of which I'm having issues with my TV (positioning etc., some DC games pictures were rolling, maybe Hz issues). No money to invest into a "Micomsoft XRGB Mini" for comparison...

The page is in Finnish but... It's pretty much a generic device. The product description said it's manufactured by "Fuj:tech" but I got a device made by "Deltaco". I honestly think they're all the same device just rebranded. I found one here, looks exactly the same:

Of course remember that not all games support VGA, like Bangaio, but I'm sure you knew that! I recommend this device if your TV doesn't have a VGA input only HDMI.
