Desktop pc can't see new HDD

Hi guys, got an issue where my pc can't see a new mechanical drive I'm attempting to install.

It's running off an SSD which was plug and play straight away, but having put this new drive in, windows 7 can't see it.

The drive is getting power, it whirs up, I've tried the marvel sata III port and a few of the sata II ports with no joy, it doesn't show in bios or disk management.

Any ideas of what I can try, I switched from achi mode to IDE as an attempt. I'm going to put it in another machine to test also.

    Cheers

Is it recognized in the BIOS? Does Windows shows it in the advanced device manager (which I never remember where it is but allows you to format pristine HDDs and change their drive letters)?

Do you have a USB enclosure, rather than opening a PC to test it? If it doesn't show up, exchange it under warranty (it's a new drive, isn't it? I missed that it wasn't recognized by the BIOS in the opening post :P )

Wihtout looking at the BIOS I couldn't tell you for sure, but not all the SATA ports on your motherboard might be enabled. In the BIOS there will be an option to disable and enable them separately. Check that first.

Also put the BIOS back to AHCI, as that wouldn't have made any difference, and you will slow your drive access down to a crawl.

Its either going to be the above, a SATA cable or the drive is buggered, but you try it on an enclosure if you have one , or another machine, using different SATA cables.
