I had exactly the same problem!
You need to totally uninstall the router from you machine, I think you can do this from the setup menu on the CD (just browse cd contents and click setup), it's not a dud CD they just don't work full stop.
You also need to reset the router to its factory default settings. To do this, turn it off, press the power key once (shortly). As soon as the power LED is flashing green press the power key once more (shortly). The power LED stop flashing to become solid green. After six seconds it starts flashing green again, press the power button once more (shortly). All LEDs flash green once the router then reboots and it back to it's original settings. (it took me a couple of attempts to do a reset so keep trying)
Once it has uninstalled restart your machine, when you get the found new hardware screen install the USB drivers from the CD but do not run the router setup utility from the CD this is whats causing the problems.
Once the USB driver have installed go to internet explorer and type
10.0.0.138 in the address bar.
You should get the speedtouch web interface. Click connect in the menu.
Type you bt username and password in the boxes and click connect.
You should now be online. If so click save all and your done. The modem should now connect automatically each time you turn it on. I use this Router with BTopenworld for Xbox live and PS2 online with no problems whatsoever.
