    Tried Winamp 5 yet?

Yes, yes, 3 was utter crap but give 5 a try

    Most WA2 input plugins work.
The skinning engine is much tidier now.
It doesn't use shedloads of ram.
Windowshade mode using the modern skin looks great.
Pop up song notifications are cool.
    Playlists are back to normal.
    It's stable. :O

I'm liking it so far, anyone else given it a bash?

This is Winamp 4 to all intents and purposes.

It's just that 5 contains the best bits of 2 and the best bits of 3, thusly 2+3=5

For some reason, it refuses to use my 5.1 setup, winamp2 work well with it, now all i have to is the front 2 speakers playing, no back, sub, or centre. And so far messing with the options has done nothing for me.

Put a CD in and all it picks up is the .mpg video on it, so i'm having to use realone player to play the CD.

Tobal, you must have it set to use the Directsound output plugin I think.

Roost, Winamp's always done this. Right click the interface, go to Play, Audio CD.
(Only happens on mixed mode CD's)

Go into the preferences - plugins - output - directsound - configure and check "hardware acceleration".

It kind of worked, its using front, centre and sub, but not the rear.

I wouldn't say it uses less RAM (seems to take 2MB more than WA3 on my machine) but it's definitely quicker and much nicer.

We've all got a gig of ram, the memory it used made **** all difference. It was the Spectrum-esque loading times that got on my tits (wa3 that is).
