    Jap dc question

    Edit: heres my ad! http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/viewtopic....382&highlight=

What is a fair price to ask for a Japanese Dreamcast from the original 99 release? It comes boxed in decent condition - the box is the one with the piccies of the japanese businessman on

The dreamcast is modded to play US/PAL games and has a really discreet switch underneath to flick between 50 and 60Hz if needed.

I have a fair few games that I might bundle with this, I have a good idea what they're worth but initially how much should I be asking for this hard to get hold of dreamcast set up?

Those editions are easier to get hold of that you might think (seen a few crop up here and there).

You'd be looking at ?50 - ?75 tops in decent condition I reckon.

*edit* - any idea how to fit the 50-60Hz switch? I've not seen instructions on that anywhere.

Cheers for the info papercut, I respect your opinion on these matters

I have no idea as it was 'professionally' modded by an importer (whose name escapes me now) at the time.

I had imagined that the fact it is region free and has the 50/60Hz switch to ensure maximum compatibility (PAL bangi-o anyone?) might add some value to this. It's sad but I think I might put this out for sale next week as I haven't touched the old dc in a long while and I want to buy a new amp!

I'd wait until you've got some more price guestimates first

Surely you'd regret getting rid of your DC eventually though? With so many good games there must be some you don't have, and most can be picked up cheaply. I have a lot of DC stuff, and there are still games I'd like to get.

I reckon for what you'd get selling this, you may as well keep hold of it...

re: the 50-60Hz switch, my knowledge of early DC mods is patchy, but I remember the very first DC mods were hacked bioses, or at the least a bios switcher. I wonder if thats what you have? Just thinking that a simple 60Hz switch would be great for modded pal DCs without a DC-X disk (allowing them to properly play those few awkward ntsc games that inadvertantly run in 50Hz on a pal system).

A few of the games are already provisionally taken but I have a few popular titles I am free to bundle with it (all mint condition):

            JAP
            Border Down
            Ikaruga
            Crazy Taxi 2
            Sonic Adventure 2

            PAL
            Mr Driller
            Bust A Move 4
            Worms World Party
            Virtua Tennis 2
            Bangai-o

I shall also bundle it with a boxed official RBG scart cable, 2 controllers, 2 VMUs and 2 rumble packs

I might seperate Border Down and Ikaruga out for quick sales, but the other games whilst quality I will bundle in undoubtedly to save hassle on me with trips to the post office!

What do you think a good total might be for all this lot? I might put it up on Monday if there is some interest

True, there are many 2D fighters I haven't got around to buying yet, but I find myself having no time to play the DC with all the cube and xbox crackers out there. If it can make someone else happy as a collector then I will be glad.

i presume that border down and ikaruga would push the price up somewhat. id be very interested in this bundle without those two.

The 50-60Hz switch is for forcing NTSC machines into 50Hz so they can play 50Hz-only PAL games. Sadly it can't be used to force PAL DCs into 60Hz.

ah, so its a ntsc-pal switch, not a 50-60Hz switch.

I know how to do that mod.

Are you sure though? There wouldn't be much use in it.

Feel free to discuss this in my selling thread, I am just describing the mod in the way it was described to me when I bought it.....

Info on the switch can be found here: http://www.ncsx.com/ncs030600/ncs_pal.htm and here: http://www.aqwt08.dsl.pipex.com/dcfaq/, i've read that it can only be done on an ntsc dc though (http://www.ncsx.com/ncs011700/dc_mod_faq_v10.htm)

                        Cheers

Yeah, I've pal modded my Japanese DC, otherwise the screen rolls with 50Hz games (like Skies of Arcadia). It doesn't force 50Hz at all, just allows 50Hz games to run properly.

What would be really useful is a 60Hz switch for pal DCs, so we didn't have to use the DC-X to get some games running properly at 60Hz. Guess that would take some kind of bios mod, so not very possible...
