3DS Transfer Problem.

So I recently got a 3DS XL and wanted to transfer all my old downloads to the new system.

However I didn't realise you needed to do a system transfer, so like a fool I formatted the system memory on my old 3ds and then tried just using the memory card in the XL, as I stupidly presumed that games would be linked to my club Nintendo account and not the actual console. Needless to say this did not work.

To make matters worse, when I go to the eshop there is simply nowhere to re-download any games that I downloaded on my previous 3ds. Even the ambassador titles are not there to download again.

Just wondering, is there any way around it, or am I going to have to buy the games I want again?

You can try to "log-in" with your old 3DS and see if you can download things from there and then do a system transfer. If the old 3DS isn't able to, you lost everything. Very stupid system on Nintendo's part, and the real turn-off when it comes to digital releases on all their systems. You can try to contact Nintendo's customer support, if everything else fails.

Did you just perform a system format on the old 3DS, or did you also delete the Nintendo eShop account? These are two seperate things.

If you only performed a system format, then you should still be able to re-download all the games on your old 3DS - All you have to do is go into the eShop, tap 'Menu' at the top left, scroll down and select 'Settings/Other', then select 'Titles you have downloaded' and you should be able to see all the games you previously had downloaded onto the system before the system format.

At this point you have two options - you can either redownload all the games on to the old 3DS and then perform a system transfer, or you can just perform a system transfer with both systems as-is, which will just transfer the eshop game download licenses, then you should be able to go into the new 3DS eshop and redownload them all from there.
