    Original Xbox - What PSU?

    Hi all,

Im trying to sort out the older consoles I have, that have been laid dormant in cupboards.

Ive found everything for my original xbox, except the PSU. Was there a bespoke PSU for this?
No idea what I am looking for, I cant remember for the life of me what it looked like. I am assuming its a brick? The 360 may be confusing me.
Its has a Fig 8 power socket on the back (think thats what its called lol)

    Thanks

PSU is inside. Fig 8 power cable is all that's needed.

But later on they released a cable with a power trip circuit which looked a bit like a PSU with a reset button on it (but it's not a PSU - the PSU is in the xbox, partly contributing to its enormous size.

If you have any problem with the power the PSU board is a cinch to replace as long as you have spare same version Xbox replacement. It is a completely separate board right next to the MB secured by only two screws.

My only chipped Xbox and main gaming machine has been flogged very hard over the years and started acting up only just this week, powering off after 5 minutes and then refusing to power on again for another 5 minutes. A bit of research on various Xbox dedicated forums and my own testing led me to believe it was PSU board component failure, possibly a capacitor, although all looked good.

The Xbox is over 10 years old now so for a very well used machine into the period when components like capacitors can fail but it is the first games console new or used I've ever had a major trouble with like this.

However I'd taken the precaution of buying a supposedly faulty Crystal Xbox v1.6 for spares and luckily my chipped Xbox was also a v1.6 so I replaced the PSU board with the one from that and voila all working again.

I bought another cheap (<?20 inc. all leads and controller) Xbox only a few days ago intending to use it to fix the canabilised Xbox. But it is actually in better condition and has a better disc drive so there's no point.
