    Thanks!

I've found this pretty good: http://www.johnlewis.com/netgear-n30...=c&tmcampid=73

Best upright otherwise gets hot. Range is ok. Changing settings is quick and doesn't require a reboot for most of it. Lots of useful lights. Just had a firmware update that makes the menu easier to follow. Does auto firmware checks every time you log into the dash.

    No idea about BT though.

The BT Home Hub is often reviewed as one of the best all purpose router/modem thingies. It was tested on The Gadget Show (UK:C5) only yesterday and it was said to be as good as any of the alternatives.

If you haven't used an ISP provided (ADSL) modem/router before you should at least try out the one provided first to see if it suits. They're usually free(ish) so if you don't get on with it you haven't lost anything.

I asked a similar question a few weeks back before i signed up for BB for the first time with Talktalk. I've been using their free router, a Huawei
HG523a, since even though I shelled out on a TP-Link N600. When I eventually get my network set up I will need the TP-Link with its 4 Ethernet ports but at present the supplied one has worked near enough flawlessly with my laptop and XB360 (Ethernet). No idea about its wi-fi performance though.

The homehub doesn't work with Airplay and you can't set the DNS servers so in that respect it's crap! As an actual modem though it is solid and gets a good connection yeah. Just I need two features that it doesn't have sadly.

Thanks Charles, I'll investigate that one. EDIT: D'oh! I have a Netgear at the moment. Never again! The search continues.

lol can't set the DNS? Pretty fundamental no?

I went round the houses. They are all a bit rubbish in some respect
3Com, Buffalo, TPLink (teepeeformybunghole), Belkin, linksys.

Linksys was the worst. The 3Com worked flawlessly until I got wireless N devices. I'm pretty sure that the mix of wireless N and G in the house is the only thing that causes any issues actually.

I ended up with Netgear because it was the last option - I had been avoiding it because of the general feeling about their routers.
I'm now set up with that Netgear and a cheap TPLink extender. It all seems to be working.

Actually, do you want to try my Buffalo? I don't need it any more. Crazy menus, but is uber powerful. If you can be at the racecourse on Saturday by 9.30-10, Lucy can take it with her.
