Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer

G'day peeps,

My original Xbox 360 RROD, am thinking of getting a new one to tide me over until PS4 and Xbone due out.

For the transfer of my stuff from my original 20gb drive to a new Xbox with the transfer cable thingy, I only need the original drive, correct?

That is I don't have to get my old RROD console repaired first?

Yeah just the drive. Do you have access to another console as it is only 20Gb you could copy most of your saves to a 16Gb USB stick as a backup as the transfer is a move not a copy? If anything goes wrong they're gone unless you have them also in the cloud.

Nope I've not got access to another console unfortunately. I may have to risk it, as I don't fancy wasting coin to get my old 360 fixed.
