    Wii-U HDMI AND Muti-Out/Stereo lead?

Quick question. Just picking up a Wii-U and since I have a PJ with no audio-in I run everything through HDMI with the audio coming separately through the stereo leads, for example with a PS3 I used to use the multi-out lead for stereo through the amp and the HDMI through the projector. Just checking you can do the same thing with the Wii-U?
    Cheers

You can't. It's HDMI out or Multi out. You could route all audio via the GamePad, but that's going to suck.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

It can be done with something like this I believe ET88, HDMI to HDMI and audio out box.

I looked in to one for the Wii U a couple on months back and bought a new monitor instead

Ta mate, but another ?30 on top for a console I was erring on the side of caution with due to the small number of releases seems a bit silly. Bloody Nintendo, I was looking forward to a Wii-U after playing Zombi-U, but guess it's a no go. I was quite buzzed about the console despite the negative press but this a rather large oversight on their part I believe. Anyhow cheers for all the info lads, saved me the grief of finding out too late!

          Okay, this sucks.

I always have the same setup.

Yup, I'm still a big N fan, but this is pretty crappy considering even the PSX had bloody stereo outs. At least bung an optical on there. The fact I can't even play it as such now without upgrading/changing my set-up is a blow of Linda Lovelace proportions.

If you've got component leads from a Wii that's another option? I ended up upgrading my whole amp/speaker setup for the WiiU since my old setup needed optical in. The biggest kick in the bollocks is that even after upgrading, original Wii games won't play in 5.1 on the WiiU because of the Dolby issue. Grr.

Isn't the PS3 the only HDMI console able to do this? The X360 doesn't have a similar option either.

[edit] I'm wrong, I was thinkking having the audio on HDMI/optical AND stereo out at the same time.

You can use HDMI on the 360 and run the stereo leads (or optical) through the audio dongle to an external amp. Used to do that with my old Optoma PJ and Sony amp. Like 'zees:

It's silly as if I did invest in a new HDMI amp, most of them don't have phono in or grounding for my record player. And considering all I really own is vinyl it seems silly to upgrade everything for the sake of one console in my case.

Yeah, with the PS3 I had HDMI and stereo leads for an easier recording setup, it's the only console able to output HDMI/optical and stereo at the same time, I was getting confused with my needs :P

Do you mean, optical and stereo? So it can essentially boot out to 3 sound sources? Or have I misunderstood!?

But it's HDMI/optical or stereo, not both at the same time, like the PS3 can. IIRC you can have HDMI and optical at the same type, though the secondary audio out would be downsampled to stereo.

[edit] yes, I meant at the same time.

Ah yeah that's correct, sorry I think I misunderstood what you meant
I used to have HDMI through the TV and the optical lead through my DTS system and it kicked out DTS fine on movies etc. After I got rid of my TV I used the HDMI for image like before and the stereo outs to the amp for stereo. Both ways worked fine. If that's what you mean then yeah that's how it seemed to work

I've used HDMI and stereo before on 360. Or do you mean something else?
