    Cambridge Audio Minx Go

Just a heads up. I bought one of these a few days ago and IMO it's better than the Bose Soundlink (I've used both quite extensively now) and is only ?99:

If you're after a bluetooth enabled, portable speaker this is the kiddie. Sounds absolutely amazing considering the size. Quite where the bass comes from I don't know. Also has an aux input for non-bluetooth linking up.

We all know what Bose stands for!

Lol. I think Bose make very nice kit. It's just the price. There's almost always a way to get something that does the same job and sounds as good for half the price.

As someone that's always very conscious of price/performance I'd never consider Bose.

My amplifier is Cambridge Audio - very nice piece of kit. Doesn't feel as rugged as my older Rotel though.

Cambridge usually seem to get it just right with regard to quality vs cost. The Bose Soundlink is probably a little bit better build quality but nothing that could warrant and extra ?150!

Wow 18 hours battery! That is impressive. I will keep my eyes open when out and about so I can have a listen.

I saw a review of someone who got 22 hours out of it!

If what you say is true and it sounds better then the Bose that is amazing. Just as loud? more bass?

I listened in 2 different environments so you can't take this as gospel but I would say it goes louder than the bose and the bass is heavier, but certainly not at the expense of clarity. Richer sounds told me that Cambridge reckon they have underpriced it and want to put it up to ?150. Probably bull**** but I reckon it's great value even at ?150.

If this and the bose were the same price I'd buy this.

Richer Sounds are normally really good with their info and from what I have read this does seem a tad too cheap. This should be marketed at ?149 rrp from a performance and material perspective. I know from my work that if you price something too cheap most people over look it (dumb I know). Although I guess Cambridge Audio are an unknown brand to the 'masses' and they have to break into a mass market so catch 22.

I have learnt that Cambridge audio do speakers too, I thought they just did source based equipment. If I was buying a stereo set up I would grab a Cambridge audio amp.

EDIT: It is lighter too......wow. The only other thing you could say to blow my mind would be it has no transformer and plugs straight into the wall with a 3 pin plug.

Transformer forms part of the plug and is slighty larger than a standard 3 pin plug and weighs almost nothing. Comes with a cloth bag to transport it around in (the speaker, not the plug!).

Also, has a USB port on the back that will charge ipods, phones etc. even when not plugged into the mains (not tried this).

As a bonus I found an ipod classic bluetooth adapter in a drawer at home so can now use my ipod with this too. Love it!

I've been looking for a good sounding portable speaker for the flat I've rented for working in York. Have ordered one of these and should be here tomorrow, looking forward to hearing just how good it is.

Well it arrived today. As FSW says it does have very impressive bass for such a dinky little unit and good sound. It's a very, very narrow soundfield though and your focus always goes direct to the speaker. I had a BOSE sound dock years ago that really filled the room with wide stereo which is the only thing I've owned as any comparison. Bit undecided on it right now, though I would definitely agree it's excellent value for money for what it does.

Edit: After a day of playing around with it I'm just not happy enough with it and I'll be sending it back for a refund. At low volumes it's pretty poor and isolated, you really need to have it near peak volume to find it an entertaining sound. I have a pair of logitech PC speakers that have a better sound and only cost ?20. Ok, they don't have bluetooth or run on batteries, but I would never have taken the Minx Go outside anyway.
