    Problems with the Internet last-night?

It was diabolically slow on my BY 2Mb line last-night.

    But, this might explain why.

    Transatlantic Outage

Further investigation has revealed that the current outages seen to some United States based internet sites has been caused by a major outage of the TAT-14 ring that connects the United States to the United Kingdom, France, The Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark. This has in effect meant a loss of connectivity between parts of the United States and parts of Europe.

We have been told that the Tier-1 provider who runs the TAT-14 ring and is working has assembled an international restoration team on an ad-hoc restoration, which will take several hours to implement. This should restore most connectivity to the United States however speeds may suffer.

You may continue to see DNS timeout errors when attempting to access sites in the United States until the ad hoc fix is in place after which we expect these errors to clear up.

    Same here.
I'm no where near your 2mb speed, but my 512k broadband was just like 6 months ago when I was on that god awful dial up 56k ****.

Well I had no connection at all all night

A combination of no Final Fantasy 11 and having to watch Arsenal embarass Inter 5-1 made my night rather disappointing all round

        Agreed.

Trying to buy tickets on Ticketmaster's website last-night was a chore, felt like I was back on my old 33.6k modem. >_<

It appeared to be very ISP dependent. Freeserve was DNS failure hell, whereas Demon flew along as per normal (though Demon used to have it's own transatlantic link, don't know if that's still the case).

Strangely enough - I could access all of the internet, apart from this forum ?? I just got a page cannot be displayed dns error.

              Very weird.

Apparently Telewest and NTL customers suffered badly. Im on telewest and could only get on a few sites.
Luckily i could get on ntsc-uk.

It was an outage on the network in the u.s.
The pipex website had the reason on their website last night.

So like he said in the first post eh

Makes me laugh, though. The yanks have problems and sites like NTSC-uk forum (sat on Neil's server in blighty) cop it.

Clara.net carried on regardless for the most part, it seemed like; the only problem I noticed was a monumentally sluggish American TrackMania server I tried playing on, but I just put it down to being a sluggish server at the time. Some people lost DNS and had all sorts of problems, it would appear.
