I was after a 42" all rounder, but not overly interested in 3D. About ?550 is my budget.

I guess my other option is to hang on until Christmas/January to see if anything else comes up? x

Love it, not sure best place/price to buy it presently. Smart TV bit is a bit pants compared to some others but we didn't buy it for that.

Guess prices will be a bit lower in January when everyone is skint and sales dry up.

I have the 32" variant of the set in the OP. I'm very happy with it generally, both for gaming and the Smart TV element. We use Youtube and Netflix apps a lot. The only problem is the BBC i-player app has an awful UI to navigate. It's really slow to load thumbnails irrespective of broadband speed (we have 60mb running over ethermet), and buffers endless button presses from the remote it seems. Takes a lot of patience.

My brother has just bought the 32" version of the Bravia in the OP. Definitely a very nice picture for the money (?365), sound is a bit different to the main living room set, so may need a little fiddling in the settings. HD tuner definitely a plus as well, and the built in wifi and catch-up apps.

Was thinking of getting a telly for Christmas.

Are there any 37-42" displays that aren't Smart TVs, fairly nice image and low latency for gaming currently?

I was in BM bargains on Saturday and they had a Panasonic viera plasma 42" for ?329 which I thought was pretty good.
For ?550 I recently bought a Samsung UE40F6500 which has just about everything you'd need. It is also What-hifi's best TV under ?900.
It is currently ?600 at Richer Sounds with a 5 year warranty.
There are some benefits to getting a 3D panel even if you don't use it such as support for higher refresh rates

Probably want 1080p for PC usage too myself.

My mate has a Viera though and it's great for SD content as well as HD.

We have the 32" version of this set in the kitchen and liked it so bought the 40" for the in-laws. It was worth it at ?900 so that price is a steal. Far better sound quality than you would expect from a modern TV, simple UI, expensive feeling remote and supports hard drive recording.

Wow, thanks guys.

I think the Sony for ?500 with a 5 year warranty from John Lewis is my best bet then.

Or another ?100 for the 40" Samsung UE40F6500?

I'm really scared that when I do buy a new TV, the following week there will be a mega bargain!

I'd also look at the UE40F6320 as it is ?100 less than the 6500 - http://www.richersounds.com/product/...sams-ue40f6320

The only difference I can tell is the Clear motion rate is 200 rather than 400 which you probably won't use anyway and the 6500 has a Freesat HD tuner as well as Freeview HD.

I bought the 6500 from Pixmania for ?549 with a ?49 rebate. They are known to supply euro models though which are fine apart from the FreeviewHD is not the same as UK.

Hmm only 50hz I think.

Haha, you mean 50/60Hz. No modern TV will only be 50Hz.

I'm not really a fan of the fancy 120Hz+ screens myself.
