Scart to S-video converter for Japanese Megadrive 2

    Hi there,

I have recieved a good offer for my Wondermega and am thinking of downgrading to a MD2. However, I really dont want to play it through the terrible AV image and TVs in Japan generally dont have scart connections.

I was wondering if there would be any problems connecting a Japanese MD2 via Scart - S video converter to the TV? Will it work, and will it improve the picture?

I was looking at something cheap like this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/RGB-Scart-to...item2ec33ad414

    Thanks,

You will have to check your TV.

As I understand it, a Scart socket will accept either RGB or S-Video, but not both. You ever wonder why some TVs have Scart sockets that aren't RGB compatible? That's because they accept S-Video instead.

So if you have a second Scart socket on your TV that doesn't accept RGB, that adapter should work fine.

Thanks Shakey but i don't have a scart socket on my TV, I have an S-video one.

What I mean is I want to connect my MD>scart>adaptor>S-video>tv.

Oh sorry, I read too quickly. That adapter won't be much good because it doesn't have a Scart input. That adapter is for connecting an S-Video or Composite cable into a TV's Scart socket.

Does that MegaDrive 2 support S-Video without modification? That would be the first thing to find out.

MD2's need to be modded for S-VHS.
          Kept you waiting, huh?

Thanks guys, looks like I will have to reconsider about selling the Wondermega.

Is it feasible that something like this would work?

              Megadrive>Scart>HDMI BOX>HDMI>TV

It should do, but it may depend if the box supports 240p input.

If you're going to go down the hardware converter route, the guys on this forum might be able to give you better advice.
