    CPU Help

    I'm currently using an i5 760 @2.8ghz. Been using it with a 570gtx and 8gb of ram.
However most of the games I play seem to lag and stutter a lot when playing at 1080 resolution. Popping up the task manager performance gauge shows my CPU is at 100% during those games.

Now I'm thinking, how can I help alleviate the stutter causer by the CPU bottlenecking, which I assume it is.
Should I buy a new cooler and overclock it? Will that give any noticeable gain? Or should I buy a new CPU that can fit in my current motherboard? Is there any better CPU for the 1156 slot mobo?

    Help!

Not sure how much you can overclock a 760?
Also, despite your CPU being at 100% it might not actually be a bottleneck. Dragon Age Origins will max my CPU whether it's at stock 3.3ghz or overclocked to 5ghz. It's just some poor coding in there, a tight loop or something maybe. Which games?

      Eve online, battlefield 4 multiplayer.

I'm getting lag spikes which could be due to cpu not keeping up with gfx?

Ok, for BF4 with that GPU then the CPU is likely the bottleneck. O/Cing to 3.5GHz should remove the bottleneck. I like the Corsair H60 integrated liquid cooler but just choose a new cooler, fit it and OC and you should be good to go. I'd wait for others to chime in as well though too validate what I've said.

Yeah that's what I thought. Apparently bf4 multiplayer is cpu intensive. Lim just running the stock intel cooler so definitely need a new one before overc locking.

My 2500K with the stock cooler wouldn't even OC by a few 100 MHz without overheating! Those stock coolers are pants. The H60 lets me go to 5.1Ghz and still keeps the temp to 70ish celcius. I hadn't appreciated how CPU intensive BF4 was. Til now only things like Arma and emulators have needed me to OC.

Can you unpark the cores on that CPU? Some people call bullsh!t on doing this, but I was BF4 stuttering on a 3570k and doing this alleviated it, the game is dodgy performance wise imo.

Few tings you can try to improve BF4 performance:

Run the DirectX.exe in the games own program folders.
              Unpark Cores.
              Use Windows 8.

These could all be lies, but since doing 1 & 2 my performance has been bareable.

I unparked my cores on my 3570k. Result was more consistent and higher frame rates in Tera.

As I understand it just prevents certain power saving options so all the cores are always on/visible.

Over clocking can help but honestly it's probably time for an upgrade.

Yeah I've unparked them. Eve online also struggles a lot during larger fleet battles. CPU always 100% but GFX card never seems to be too hot when that happens. I guess a new heatsink and overclock to see if it helps is in order.

OK I bought the http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...r212_evo/5.htm Cooler Master 212 Evo. Hoping that will allow me to bump it up a bit.

Will I get any noticeable benefits from going from 2.8 to say 3.8ghz?
