Anyone seen or own a Darbee Darblet?

Thinking of getting one for my Projector, just wondered what your impressions are?

I saw the examples on their websites...essentially it's a real-time sharpening/unsharp masking and levelling device. Honestly, from their images I think that image quality is worsened. Might be good for projectors, but I have my doubts.

Yes I think its a definite "Marmite" product. I guess if you like the "Bond Picture" on the right in this Eurogamer review then its for you (I do by the way):

Can the Darbee Darblet make your games and movies look richer and more detailed? DF hardware presents the definitive review.

Given that I care about accurate imaging, I can't recommend this sort of device, except for transfers you know are poor (and even then you might as well just use your own TV's Sharpening control). Filmmakers already use sharpening like this in post production where they deem it necessary to accentuate different parts of the picture to draw your eye to them. Those are the sort of decisions that should be made by a person, not a chip.

I'm not totally against image manipulation where there's a use for it. This is a variation on unsharp masking, only from what I remember from reading the patent, it isn't applied to the image uniformly.

It is a very good example of marketing, though. There are similar features on some BD players and projectors that nobody cares about, but since this is a standalone device with a branded name, people have asked me about it before.

That Eurogamer review is interesting, although I don't think fully accurate.

Here's yet another glowing review. I think I might demo one or grab a used one?

I'll remain professional and just say that has a bunch of technical inaccuracies.
