    iOS push mail possible?

I am trying to setup mail on my iPad, but push mail is not selectable in the settings menu (default mail app). On my Android phone I use gmail app and K9 for my site mail (via 1and1) and in both cases it uses push ? i.e. I don't have to check/refresh my email for them to be found on my phone. It also appears to work on my mac with Postbox app. Why does this not work with iPad?

From searching it seems you have to use the gmail app, but that doesn't help me with my site mail (also makes emails less visible with two separate apps). I don't understand the technology behind push email, so this explain my confusion.

I have tried other mail apps, eg. Evomail, but this stops you using email links in some apps...

    Little help?

Should be in settings, mail, fetch new data, push? (After setting your email up)

Google disabled the service that enables push notifications on IOS back in January 2013.

If you were still connected the to service then it remains, but as soon as you disconnect (new phone, new software) then you lose access to it forever.

The only options are to use the googlemail app which has it's own notifications or to forward your gmail to another email service that still supports exchange active sync such as outlook.com

I had read that. Doubt I'll have access. Any ideas about my site mail? I wonder if I should contact either 1and1 or Apple...

Contact the people who provide the email hosting, I suspect it will be a paid extra.

Does it not seem odd that it's supported on android and mac but not ipad? Could they really have switched off support?

Also, push mail does appear to work via notifications on the ipad via evomail app, but when I go into the app it's not there immediately.

I would presume that the evomail app and google app support IMAP IDLE which google does support still, but the native app for ios and windows phone does not.

I'm guessing apple haven't added it in because it often uses up more battery and they are striving to increase the battery life of their devices.

You can add other email accounts from other providers into outlook.com now, I assume that then lets these come though via active sync also? Might be an option for you?

I haven't tried it though, just seen it as an option.

Just want to clarify one thing: push is not exclusive to mobile data? I.e. it should work on a WiFi-only device like my iPad?

Finally have some answers from 1and1 after an hour on the phone over two calls (technical issues on my end). It seems that push is not supported by the kind of mailbox I have. This, I have to say is very odd, since it seems to work with my Android phone – the support bloke said it could be that the phone somehow has lower standards than the Apple device??

It would cost an additional ?5-7 per month to change to a supporting server, which really is not worth it! Bummer.

Can anyone suggest a cheaper way of managing my emails and enabling push? Like if I fed it through a third-party service?

How would I set this up?
