How difficult is it to obtain a multi-region Saturn?

    Just a quick question.

My lass really wants to play a specific Japanese Saturn game (the Utena one), and I've been thinking of getting a Saturn for a while to play all of the titles I used to play as a kid.

Part of me really wants a "flash white" model because they look awesome. However, as Japanese machines need a step-down power supply, I'd probably be better off with a Euro one that's been modded to remove the region check, and will run Japanese/Euro/American titles.

Firstly, how difficult is this to do? I know the machine itself is difficult to mod. Is there anything about this I should know? (like does the mod only work with certain games, or something?).

Not hard to obtain. Mods are easier on the round/grey button machines. See http://mmmonkey.co.uk for details on the mods themselves. If you really want a limited release console design, maybe Yakumo could help you out if you ask extra nicely. His site has quite a lot of detail on such things: http://www.segagagadomain.com

Get a region free BIOS, a modchip and a 50/60Hz switch (if you care about PAL) and you're golden.

Worth noting you can use a UK PSU in a JP Saturn as I do with my HST-3210.
