    Mame

I have been setting up Mame today, does anyone else here run it?

Do some games have no sound on yours? A few of them say at the beginning something along the lines of 'Not 100% accurate, this game has no sound'.

Wondered if that was the same no matter what you are running Mame on?

Yes that's normal, even though some games will run, some of the arcade boards/systems mame emulates are incomplete so no matter what you run it on you'll still get no sound. Newer versions of mame will probably correct the faults but sometimes you can be waiting forever for them to implement missing features.

There are still loads of games on my setup that won't work, least i have enough power to run slightly more modern arcade games like mr driller. Before onl my older pc that used to run in slow motion now it's a lot faster but the sound still glitches out. Just one of those things with mame i guess.

Thanks mate. I'm running it on the 360 so I would imagine its plenty powerful enough. Just thought it strange a few had no sound.

MAME on consoles and portables is generally an older build optimised to run on their respective architectures. If you wish to play Sega's Model 2 and Model 3 games there are two separate emulators for them that support sound and force feedback input.

If you want optimal compatibility a laptop (or HTPC) under the telly with a MAME GUI and a wireless receiver (or a third party gamepad, stick etc) is best. Generally MAME depends more on CPU cycles in favour of GPU acceleration, so a relatively fast CPU can usually balance out weaker graphics.

Arcade shmups? Do you want to navigate the interface using the mouse or the joystick?

Joystick, have a VSHG with a PS360+ in it. Gave shmupmame a go yesterday and it was alright. Bit fiddly but I guess that is the nature of MAME.

                I'm running Coinops 5 on Xbox1.
Whilst it doesn't contain everything, what it does works 100%.

Smouty just going that route myself.

I dug out my old pc and put the new mame on it, its totaly different to the mame i used to remember! it seems to be put back to the DOS days, where as the last mame i used, was 0.96, with a clear interface, now upto 1.5 and to me its so different its unusable.

came accross coinops and visionary, and thats looks very slick cant wait to get it up and running.

I run iMame on a stock Ipad 2 (went up for about a day on the App Store before being pulled) plugged into an iCade Controller Cabinet. I have about 300 of my favourites working smoothly & with sound. Games run in portrait & landscape & the two devices connect via bluetooth. Makes for a great miniature arcade cab
