    Recommended UK VPNs

As the title says really, can anybody recommend any UK-based VPNs? Are there any that are recognised as the best?

To be honest, I'm not amazingly knowledgeable about VPNs. I understand that some are faster than others, some use stronger encryption that others etc. This will primarily be used for streaming video media content from the UK, so speed and low latency is a priority (as well as price, of course). I would also consider paying more for a dedicated connection rather than sharing it.

Any comments are appreciated, as I'm really not so knowledgeable about this!

Friendly Import video game discussion forum, informative reviews, NTSC (Japan / US) and PAL - BordersDown (previously known as NTSC-uk)

I get a UK and US VPN with that. Don't use it very often - I mostly use the DNS service.

How does that work? Does it only work with the video streaming services specified on the page?

I would be streaming Virgin TV Anywhere.

How do these media-orientated VPNs differ from the regular VPNs? The prices seem very similar!

The unotelly service only works with the services mentioned on this page: http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/channels
UnblockUS as mentioned above is also meant to be good. Lebowski, do you switch regions on a webpage, or do you need to change DNS settings? Unotelly has "dynamo" so you flick a switch on a web dashboard to change region. You can also take it with you with the IP address update button, for using a laptop in a hotel or whatever.

DNS service does not use their bandwidth, just their DNS units. VPNs suffer from lag and bandwidth issues (you are actually connecting to another PC essentially and then going from there), but if your service isn't supported by DNS changes, you need a VPN. I think I explain most of this in my article.

Thanks, that make sense. I guess neither of those VPNs will work with Virgin TV Anywhere though.

I installed a browser add-on in Chrome the other day to stream certain shows from Crunchyroll US. Might be worth a try before you get your wallet out. Will link it later.

The VPNs will work. Not the dns service though.

                      Okay, here's what I used.

Wish you could access worldwide content anytime, anywhere? With Hola you can! Experience uninterrupted content at the tip of your fingers! Discover more.

Was streaming 1080p no problem and sometimes I get hiccups from the EU version of Crunchyroll.

Yeah same sort of thing but no restrictions on what it will work with, you just update the location via a drop down and your good to go, strangely things like disneys doc mc stuffins is only on the Brazilian Netflix so its handy to be able to hop via a bookmark on my phone.

Hola appears to work excellent! Thanks. The free service seems to work a charm - only briefly buffers about once every five minutes (and that might be more to do with my connection).

I'll give this a go before I look into any pay services.
