What's the best way to play videos on an iPad?

As part of a presentation I'm giving soon, I'm going to be playing some video files.

However, it looks like I'm going to be doing the presentation on my iPad using SlideShark.

I haven't embedded the videos in the presentation file, as in my experience that rarely works the way you want it to - I just have them as video files (I think they're AVIs but I'll need to check).

What's the easiest way to transfer them to my iPad and play them?

Airplayer is quite good and allows playing of local files. But if you can get VLC player (you'll have to download it outside of the appstore and import it into Itunes) that never failed for me. you just transfer the films over via usb.

There's probably better software though - I'm a bit behind the times.

I use Goodplayer. It plays anything except AC3 audio which was removed from most apps due to licensing issues.

As k0pp0 says, I use Airplayer to stream from my server and computer and it works flawlessly or use Plex which is also good.

If you have one of those camera transfer cables, you can rename the files as 8digitss.mov and put them in the DCIM folder on the camer and transfer them over and they will appear in your camera roll. You may have to convert from avi to mp4 first though. Let me know if you want to me check.

Alternatively just get an Android tablet and drag and drop from your PC saving you endless amounts of grief*

*probably not a very useful suggestion, but it's what I did after smashing my head against the various iPad walls for too long.

I've used AVPlayerHD for years. Supports virtually everything including MKV and AC3 audio.

It's available in the App Store and it costs a couple of quid.

I use Playable Pro HD, which is very good too.

I should also say; streaming is out as I won't have an internet connection on the site.

How do you go about transferring the files for these solutions?

This is what I used when I had an iPad. Great for fansubbed anime.

Do you have iTunes? If so, you need to conver the avi to m4v (using handbrake) and then load it into iTunes and then load it on to the iPad from iTunes....... If not, then you need to use the camera transfer cable as I already mentioned.

That's not true. You don't need to convert the video to use it with any of the apps recommended in this thread.

To put files into AVPlayerHD, you can simply go to the WiFi transfer option in the app, and it will give you the choice of HTTP or FTP connection. HTTP means you can do it in your browser, or you can use an FTP client and do it that way if you prefer.

Alternatively, plug your iPad in, open iTunes, click on the iPad part and go to File Sharing. Then just drag and drop the video on (no conversion required). This one will work for any of the apps suggested in this thread I would imagine.

I believe Oplayer HD also supports SMB shares for Windows machines. So there are many options.

I went with AVPlayerHD in the end, and I'm going to transfer the files tonight. Thanks all!
