Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

I need to get a new HDTV for my sitting room as my existing one is too small.

I'm thinking around 50" (probably LCD) and my main concern is one with low input lag for gaming. I don't really want to spend much more than ?500 and will consider 2nd hand models. There's such a bewildering range of model numbers available and I don't really know where to start.

Am I correct in thinking that only Sonys have low input lag? Or is anything with a decent "game mode" going to be sufficent?

I am also concerned about built quality as my 32" Samsung is a plasticy piece of crap and the stand broke within a year or so. VGA and decent RGB scart would also be bonus.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

They will all tell you their lag in the spec sheets. I'm pretty sure all the manufacturers do models with low lag these days.

I got thie 32 inch model of the Sony set below last Nov because id read that it was good for gaming* its amazing with the ps4 as the remote can control the ps4 too and makes it a great multimedia hub which is now are main blueray player as well. The only downside is the lack of hdmi ports it only has two so i have to use a splitter for the digibox/xbox one but thats not a massive problem.

Engaging [LED Motion Mode] – should you wish to do so – barely increased the lag by a mere 6ms to 20.5ms which is an excellent level of responsiveness no other non-Sony HDTVs have been capable of matching to date. Add full 4:4:4 reproduction (in [Game] and [Graphics] mode) to the equation, and we’re convinced you won’t find a better flat-screen television on which to play video games at the moment.

There are 9 series in the Samsung TV range. Which type is your 32"?
I have a Samsung 6 series and think it is excellent for the price but doubt you'll find something of this quality for that price but it does have a lot of features you might not need such as 3D.

That one looks great and price is good but I think that 42" just wouldn't be big enough.

I'll check that out thanks. I'm trying to find out roughly how input lag is tolerable so I have somethign to go by.

Mine is LE32B550 and while the picture and everything is fine the stand is very cheaply made and ended up cracking. I swore I'd never touch another samsung.

I keep going into John Lewis to look at that 80" badass Sony for ?25k. I make it work in my head, but I can't be doing that. I remember when 32" was the killer set. Jaja.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

If you can spend ?700 you will be a very happy man as this TV continues the low input lag trend of Sony's 2013 range. It still only has 2 HDMI's though, so a splitter or AV receiver is needed in most cases.

I think I'm probably going to go for this one, thank you for the link. The 2 HDMI ports doesn't bother me as I only ever use 2. The removal of VGA kinds sucks though. I guess it's a good excuse to get rid of my dreamcast.
