    Flickering things on my TV

I have a Philips LCD telly that's a good few years now. In the last few weeks, some flickering lines have appeared on the screen. Started with one row and has grown to three. The patterns seem very consistent when they're there but vary depending on the source of the picture - only one row when on my PS3, three rows from my Sky box (both HDMI). They're pictured below.

Any idea what this is? Is it fixable or is my TV on the way out? Any recommendations on what I should try?

Is it a philips ambi light?

Fairly common fault on these older sets; looks the panels probably on the way out

Try a different HDMI cable before you give up on it. One of the cables I had made patterns similar to that on my tv.

Thanks guys. It's not an ambi light, although was bought around the time they came out so could be using similar parts. Jamesy, given the fact that it does vary by input, that's a very good suggestion. I'll give it a go, thanks.

Changing lead/source are always the first things to try.

I have a mate who has a philips lcd and uses the component input with the exact same fault.

Is it a relatively long HDMi cable you are using, try a different, shorter one and see if it persists.
There is still a suggestion that HDMI cables are all the same, but cheap ones will not work with certain content.

Well I did a little bit of testing just swapping around cables I already have and the results indicate that the image source matters but not the cable or which port it goes into on the television. The Sky box will always have three rows of the flicker no matter which cable in any port. The PS3 will have just one. I haven't tested other devices yet.
