Replacing capacitors on a Game Gear

I've got a Game Gear that has the usual issues with the sound being very low through the speakers and not being able to see the screen unless viewed from a really sharp angle. So after doing some research I've found out I need to replace the capacitors.

I used the ghetto pen method to get the gamebit screw out to save a few quid.
Does anyone know where the best place is to buy the correct capacitors? Cheers!

Get all the values you need & then search on ebay you'll most likely be able to find all of them cheaply. I have used ebay loads in the past for buying electrical components much cheaper than ripoff places like Maplin.

Cheers for the advice mate. I attempted to put together my own set through ebay but all the sellers I checked either didn't have all the correct caps I needed or I had to buy at least in packs of two unfortunately. However I did find a seller selling all the caps specifically for the Game Gear for ?5.19. That worked out cheaper for just needing these particular ones. Let's hope my soldering skills are up to the task.

I can't see it being too much of an issue. Good luck either way, gotta keep those consoles alive!

I'll report back with some before and after pics. Hopefully the after ones will show a working screen.

im sure you already know this but just in case, remember the polarity as you remove them, all caps have a stripe to indicate polarity. The leg closest to the stripe on the side will be the negative lead if there's no stripe it's the shorter leg of the two thats negative.

Im pretty sure the gamegear board will have markings to show which hole is pos or neg.

OK cheers, I think I'll do them one at a time so I don't get confused and put one in the wrong way or in the wrong place.
