PS2 European component cable not working on a Japanese PS2 and Saturn S-Video

Can't find anything on this on the net and I highly suspect the fault is with the poor MOD job done on my Japanese PS2 as the cable should be universal. Is anyone aware of issues of the PAL component cable not working on a Japanese machine?

Also anyone know if PAL Sega Saturns support and work with the Japanese S-Video lead as I can't use RGB scart with the capture card I'm going to purchase.

There is no such thing as a PAL component cable. They are all the same, just the packaging is different.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

Cheers, yeah I suspected as much all the cables are uni at work, so this is purely the result of the poor mod job on the console.

Don't think S-Video is regional either.

You probably just need to set the video output of the PS2 to YPbPr from RGB. Can easily be done with a composite cable.

S-Video is universal as far as I can tell yes.

This! Its near impossible to do without a composite cable.

I can do it blind, but that comes with years of experience.

You could plug the green connector into the yellow socket and get a picture.

Sigh Speedy, you should have guessed from my first post that as it works on a PAL console, I've already set it to YPbPr for the Japanese PS2 many a time, but no display.

So I'm putting this down to poor mod job, **** knows what mod the previous owner put in but it's **** poor even triggers the copy protect on some PS1 games.

Heh, well, I see that option all over the place.

If the chip really is doing something like force RGB can you not simply enter the menu and disable any video stuff?

Of course, you would have to identify the chip first - got any screwdrivers?

Sounds like an old chip. Disables Component to run PS1.

Cheers, think it's time I open up this bad boy and find out what it is, the chip also prevents games from booting from the main menu, they only run on start up.

It doesn't run USA PS1 games either and I've tried all the various button prompt people have suggested on start up to bring up a mod menu but it doesn't appear to have one. It was fitted to a white slim series PS2.

Try turning on the console without a disc in.....put the USA ps1 game in then double tap power/reset quickly.

                          Does it boot?

Open up the ps2 and check for a wire soldered on the circuit board that links two points.

This forces rgb video output, I had to remove this before I could get component to work.

This was on a ps2 modded with messiah chip.

Boots to a black screen after the bios sadly, mind you it doesn't seem to like even Japanese PS1 that much, so could be the CD drive is also going or the Mod chip is **** / badly installed. What Mod chip did you think it was Jei?

Is there any reason a PS2 owner would want to Force RGB is it for DVD playback? Not that I have ever used it for DVD, so I'll cut the wire if it's there.

Think it's time I took it apart.
