Wii Remote stopped working - any way to fix?

My nephew dropped my LoZ:SS gold Wii remote from a height of about one foot, and it has unfortunately since stopped working. We were in the middle of playing Wii Sports at the time and it literally stopped working then and there. He feels very guilty about it which is quite unfair because it's definitely not his fault - I'm sure I've dropped it from higher (and without the jacket on without it breaking). Therefore I'd like to fix it ASAP to alleviate his concerns

The fault is that the controller refuses to turn on - whereas normally you can test the battery level by pressing the buttons and the lights flash a couple of times, even that won't happen. Obviously I have changed the batteries first - but even then, low batteries would rarely be so low as not to cause the controller to light up at all. I opened up the remote but unfortunately there was nothing obvious like a broken wire or something rattling around. I'm wondering if anyone knows what this problem might be and if it's an easy fix, because I'd rather not pay ?25+ to replace this thing (typical it'd have to be a LE controller eh).

I've never looked inside one, but if it's really knackered, swap the innards over from another motion plus controller?

I could do that, but that would still require buying another Wii Remote+ which I'd like to avoid if possible. I realise that because I can't really specify the fault it won't be easy to suggest a fix but I figured it was worth asking just in case.
