King of Fighters - Which is Best?

Going to buy a couple of King of Fighter games for the Neo Geo AES and would like to your opinions on which are regarded as the best in the series in your opinions.
Read a few reviews and the faves at the moment are 98 99 and 2001.

Stay away from 99 and 2001. You can't go wrong with 98 or 2002, but I like 2000 as well.

Personally:

KOF 94-Small but perfectly formed, I love it
KOF 95-Excellent entry
KOF 96-My personal favourite
KOF 97-Another excellent entry
KOF 98-Very comprehensive and possibly the best to start with due to its size and style.
KOF 99-It's okay...bit of a drop from 98 though
KOF 2000-It's solid....but not fantastic
KOF 2001-Bit of a low point
KOF 2002-Not played much but seems to be a step up ahead of the new style for 2003.

I have 96,98,99 and 2K on MVS, they are all pretty good but for me its 2K then 98

I haven't played the others on the Neo yet, just on emus

98's a defo then and 2000.
I like my shooters as well I know about Viewpoint and Blazing Star (expensive) but what about Last Resort any good?
It's cheap but is it cheerfull?

If you like your shooters then you should check out the for sale section and buy Buster Broons conversion of Strikers 1945. Great shooter and a free plug for a good mate's sale

last resort is OK, I personally thought Blazing Star was crap and much preferred Pulstar but opinion on that seems to be greatly divided.

A must have game is Windjammers or if you can afford it Neo Turf Masters AKA Big Tournament Golf.

And the previously mentioned Slug 3 of course

My kawa-x romset touched down today and I've been playing plenty of Real Bout Special, it's such good fun- it's deffo going on my list for the next bulk order 8)
