The earliest game with a time trial element...

Question for the day, which was the first computer or console game to have a time trial element, ideally with a ghost and leaderboards, but doesn't have to have them.

Chip in with any suggestions and I will investigate, it wasn't Super Mario Kart back in 1992 was it?

I don't know the answer, and can't really get much info from web as "Time Trial" seems to point to Mario Kart in one way or another in Google's eyes.

Sorry as it's a pretty lame answer, but I can tell you it wasn't Mario Kart. I definitely played earlier racing games that had this feature.

You might want to check F-Zero (SNES), Supercars 1&2 (Amiga).
