Japanese and Asian PS2... What's the difference?

    Japanese and Asian PS2... What's the difference?

    I'm really tempted to get one of those white GT4 Prologue PS2s, but the fella I normally get my import stuff off has said he only has Asian ones at the moment and wont have Japanese ones for a couple of weeks. Any ideas what the differences are and whether I'm best waiting for a Japanese one?

    I think Japanese ones are 110V, and Asian ones are 220V. So if you specifically want Japanese you will need a stepdown, but with Asian you will only need an adapter.

    Im probably wrong though, I'm knew to this importing lark.

      Also, Asian PS2s are encoded to Region 3 for DVD playback whereas Japanese ones are Region 2.

        That's pretty strange. According to all the usual import sites (PlayAsia, LikSang etc) the Japanese version is released today, but the Asian version (which is what I'm waiting for from YesAsia) isn't out until the 18th of December.

          Yeah, noticed that when trying to find info on the Asian version at the aformentioned sites. I'm trying to get confirmation from him now. Suspect he's just got his wires crossed...

            asian versions are 240v and can be plugged into the uk power socket but you'd need regionx to play region 2 uk dvds on it.

            i'd say go for the asian one as no stepdown is needed just rgb cable to plug into the tv.
