PS2 chipping question

Been wanting to get my PS2 chipped for a while now but have a few concerns

My current PS2 is a PAL model and i heard chipping a PAL PS2 will cause sync problems for rhythm games which would ruin one of my favourite genres

Also i have some TV trouble, my current TV (which i don't want to/can't replace) will play all my PAL GC games at 60hz with no problems and most of my PS2 games at 60hz fine (both consoles connected through composite)

Unfortunately it cuts off the top and bottom of the screen for a couple of PS2 games (psyvariar being one i think), this also happens for all DC games at 60hz and for my one import DC game (cool cool toon) booted using DC-X (DC connected with RGB)

I want my PS2 chipped for imports just, not back-ups

Sorry if that was a bit long winded but any advice would be very welcome

get a tv that supports 60Hz properly.

if the ddr games are important (heard about the sync problems too, not seen it happen in the flesh) get a stealth modded/jpn ps1.

I got my current tv because my last one didn't play NTSC DVDs properly, this one does and i can't afford another

Also i can't buy a modded PSOne as i want PS2 rythm games

well, if your tv is cutting off the top and bottom of the screen it is doing something wrong with a 60Hz video signal.

Also, I though the sync problems were only with older ps1 ddr games. afaik ps2 stuff should be fine with a modded pal ps2.

I presume you mean that the picture is being stretched? This happens on a lot of cheaper TV's. IMO it doesn't make much difference and hasn't hampered my enjoyment of countless imports.

Overscan can be fixed by delving into the TV's service menu. A touchy risky, but worth it.

Yeh it's stretched

Where can i find how to access the menu? And won't it cause borders for games/tv that don't have overscan?

If the overscan can't be fixed, it's not a major problem as gossi the dog said - i play cool cool toon a lot it hasn't affected my play of it

Overscan is basically the tv just making the image larger than the physical screen, so it happens with all sources on the TV. You always want some overscan because otherwise you'd see the edge of the screen which isn't meant to be seen.

That's assuming that this is overscan of course. The fact that it only happens with some 60hz signals makes me a bit .

Probbaly becuase it's just a small, cheap TV

My last TV had a major overscan problem with american DVDs for some reason, the screen was stretched considerably cutting any subtitles off! This TV is relatively new and was bought to replace it and doesn't suffer from overscan with my DVDs - I'll guess i'll just live with for now for my 60hz games

btw forgot to ask are there any PS2 chips i should be avoiding? I want to be able to play both PS2 and PSOne imports, i'll get my local indie to chip it as long as he uses a decent chip

as long as your local indie uses dms3 or messiah 2 chips you'll be fine
