    Suitable child's age for 3DSXL

    Hello all,

My 6 year old is banging on about getting a 3ds for Xmas.. So.. How many of you with similar aged kids have given your kids one? Of if you haven't, why not?

I'm pretty on the fence about it but was wondering what the consensus was here...

7+ for the 3D effect. Use the parental controls and disable it there.

Yeah they say 7+ for the 3D. Aside from that, can't see a reason not to. My girl (7) has a 2DS and spends most of her play time on Animal Crossing, which she loves. She also makes a ton of Miis for no particular reason. She has a few other games but none stuck like Animal Crossing did.

Does she know you can use the Mii heads for your AC character?

My 6 year old has had a 3DSXL since he was 5 with 3d locked off in parental controls. Favourite games are Lego City Undercover, Animal Crossing and the latest DK game. Although he gave up on that because he got stuck. N00b.

Mostly by telling the kid to turn it off and put it away when you reckon they've had too much. It also becomes a wonderful bargaining tool. If they put away their toys and tidy up they can play their 3DS in the car and so on. There are parental controls for things like online stuff and the 3D so you can limit those in the system with a passcode that you will invariably forget.

She does! But finds the AC faces prettier.

My 4 year old son has a 3DS, he loves Mario and Lego games. I think a decent piece of advice is to limit the amount of games they have. For one they then play the games and learn how to play them, rather than playing lots of little chunks.

I agree with Dogg Thang, keep an eye on it and use it as punishment/ reward. I've found that my boy will regulate himself though. Gets bored and wants to play outside, draw or do homework. Little angel xxxx
