    Best image from Gamecube?

    Hi all,

Was sorting out some old stuff yesterday and came across a Viper modded gamecube - have no idea where it's come from!? Anyway, booted it up and it seems to work fine.

Now, I'm sure this has been asked 100 times and I know the component cable was Nintendo only, since the chip was in the lead, but what's my best option for decent image quality lead-wise? I run a projector so getting a decent pic from that is pretty much out of the question. So is an RGB lead with CRT the best way to go? Or can I run it on my LCD with an RGB and get the picture okay? I know the component lead is now a ridiculous price so wondered what choices I have?
I only want to play F-Zero again really, since Dolphin has issues with crashing on that particular title.

Should be good enough with scart RGB on an LCD. If it's a PAL base unit, it outputs RGB as standard. If it's an NTSC one, then a Saurian lead could be almost as scary expensive as the component lead...

Don't you have a Wii? If so, play it on that.

The official GC component cable with a 480p enabled game is the best image.

I've been trying to work this out lately, as we're talking of playing through Crystal Chronicles as a group. Not sure if anyone knows if the game is 480p compatible (and could therefore be given an upgrade with component/D-terminal), but I've managed to get a PAL console going to an XRGB Mini via a Japanese SFC scart lead...

          Close the thread.

            Thanks Charles, fuse and others.

Not sure why you want to close the thread - prob don't plan on dropping ?80 on a cable. It was implied that I was looking for alternatives to component cables ideally, perhaps I should have been clearer. Didn't know if there was a new way to hardware mod the cube etc. Also haven't owned a decent rgb cable for the gc and didn't know if they varied at all? Or there was a form of hookup I'd missed.

Apart from a Wii, no. It can be soft modded so can be region free and force video type on compatible games.
Component is significantly less expensive too.

                Hi Escape to 88
I don't know if you have a wiiU but if so, is it not possible to play GC games on a softmodded wiiU and then play Fzero GX via HDMI? That would give best display I would think. I've soft modded mine and was hoping to do this at some point.

I don't have a Wii-U, but have seen the app that let's you play GC games. I just found the cube and thought there might be a cheap (ish) option to play GX without buying any new hardware Although, what's a Wii nowadays - ?15? Might be the best option then!

Apologies for coming off as slightly sarky. Didn't mean to.

As others have pointed out. Soft-modding a Wii and using the Wii Component Cable is the very next best thing.

Indeed, it's how I play GC games - only because running GC games on my Panasonic Q is awful without a GC Component Cable.

I've managed to get Fzero AX up and running on my wiiU this evening, using a classic controller pro I had bought a while ago with Wii Goldeneye. I've got to say it looks amazing over HDMI with progressive scan enabled. Colours are incredibly vibrant and the game looks like it could easily be released as a current gen Nintendo product.
I had some difficulties to start with as I was unable to get my DS3 or DS4 controller to connect (not sure why) and it was only by luck that I thought to try the classic controller pro, but I'm glad I did really as the pad is confortable and suits the game well.

Wait, F-Zero AX on Wii U? I need to look into this..

Does it overwrite the dumb Wii menu border rubbish?

Sorry my mistake its F zero GX not AX. I didn't notice any Wii menu border once the game is loaded in. It just looks like its running natively on a Game Cube as far as I can tell.

By the way what differences are there between AX and GX

Does anyone know the picture quality from a D-terminal cable or is it effectively the same technology as component?
