    Recommend a colour inkjet printer

I've had a Canon ip4200 for the past five years - excellent printer, but the print heads have just committed suicide, so I'm looking for another colour inkjet. I'm not particularly interested in all-in-ones that do faxing and scanning, I just want a cheap and basic model. And I'd prefer something that already has generic inks available, so I don't have to fork out for the massively expensive cartridges.

So, which colour printer do you use, and would you recommend it?

I have found Brother printers to be more reliable than others... But all printers breakdown, it's in their nature... I can't really recommend you a nice standard one as I use an an A3 scanner / fax printer combo... In my experience if you want coloured image prints ink jet is the way to go, but if you are just printing out black and white text documents laser printers are better for the job and you get more bang for your buck with prints...

Btw never buy second hand printers, they never last... Also I have found purchasing one from a reputable brand to generally give better results and last ability... But that's just my experience.

Btw, please excuse the post as it doesn't really help you out much... But I wanted to contribute.

Well, you recommended Brother printers, which is helpful, ta. I'd never really considered them as a brand before, but will take a look.

I went from your printer to an ip7200. Very nice it is too. I use it with a cable though - the wifi is teh suck.

Yeah, I looked for that one (and other smilar Canon models) when mine started failing, but can't find it for sale anywhere, not even ebay. Plenty of inks, no printer. Pity, because the ip4200 has been great.

            Looks like it's the 7250 now: http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=canon+ip7250

Ooh, ta. I've got my eye on a Brother but will check that one out too.

New recommend: HP Office Jet Pro 8100. Really fast. Ink lasts for ages. Wifi too. Very well constructed. Seems more robust than all the canons I've had. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/ctg/HP-Off...ter-/112258271

People of our age do. Had a mono laser printer at home for years and when it packed up bought a HP1512 which was cheap but works great, think it will be cheaper to buy another one than replace the ink cartridges though.

How else do you print photos?

You could use a colour laser but the quality would be better I'm sure by a high end ink printer.

Depends on your needs, I use a colour laser at work and the quality of output from colour spreadsheets and presentations is excellent.

                          Lazerrr!

Well, I never print photos. If I did I'd use a camera store printing service.

I've just got a mono laser printer now, it's the nuts for documents.

Yes must admit I would get photos printed at Tesco or somewhere online.

I print them myself and then spray with UV filter fixing spray so they don't fade
