    New Monitor Recommendations

I'm looking to buy a 27inch monitor that has the ability to change the aspect ratio between standard 4:3 and widescreen. Have been looking around but haven't found anything that says it can do this, my current 24inch monitor can't.

Does anyone have a monitor or know of one that can do this and that they would recommend?

The Dell U2713HM is able to, but it's quite pricey.

You could keep an eye out for a U2711 on eBay too or something.

UltraSharp might seem expensive but you definitely won't regret the outlay when you see the image and build quality in addition to the utility.

Yes it would, because you get less border. I can play games at 1600x1200, a 1080p display can't even hope to achieve that. People think those extra 120 lines are insignificant, but I'd say otherwise.

The other thing is that it has a perfect scale factor of 5x. So 1 pixel = 5x5. Makes emulators look really sharp, I don't use any stupid filters because of it.

Struggling to find any 16:10 27inch monitors, the market is flooded with 16:9 panels though.

So if i use the Dreamcast on a 16:10 (Dell 2009wa), when i set to 4:3, it should be scaling to 1400x1050, (closest to native for that screen, with the remaining 280 lines as the borders)??

i think i have confused myself! lol

It will be scaling 480p to 1400x1050.

                  Cheaper to produce.

The Asus ProArt PA279Q is a nice solution if you can't find a U2711.

anyone any experience of running an xbox on a 1980x1200 monitor?

does it stretch the image of scale with borders?

Depends on the monitor, most (all?) will keep the 16:9 without stretching. I think that the X360 can be configured for 16:10 monitors without stretching if the monitor already doesn't do it (I might be wrong though).

sorry, should have made myself clearer.

yes the xbox 360 will display 1680x1050 on a 16:10 monitor without stretching; what i am looking to know is how it will display a 1920x1080 (a 16:9 ratio) image on a 16:10 monitor.

I use a 360 with 16:9 output on a 16:10 monitor, without stretching. However my monitor can set scaling to proportional, but I think that most/all 16:10 monitors will recognise a 720p or 1080p signal and will display it without stretching.

My U2410 displays 1080p properly, yes.
