Can anyone recommend a good amplifier?

Assuming low, I'm very pleased with my Marantz PM4400, so anything more recent than that should be decent.

Yep, charles, ?200 was absolute limit but obviously cheaper the better!

My Marantz has been on pretty much 24/7/365 for a few years now. Still pumping hard. It has two amplifiers in it actually, so it can successfully drive 2 sets of speakers (kitchen and dinning room in my house) or you can join them together if your speakers have bi-wired capabilities.

richer sounds do, not too bad deals,

i've always been a yamaha man, so would recommend them.

also they have plenty of HDMI inputs which means you don't have to use optical for the PS4.

Problem is those amps dont have a phono stage so will require an external pre amp to use with a turntable - unless the turntable has built in amplification like some these days.

Its uncommon to find digital/optical connections on a Hi fi amp also so that may be the way to go.

never used a turntable, but as i seen them they both have L/R Phono inputs, never knew there was different type of phono for turntables!

add this to the pioneer then

You can add a DAC for optical to phono (line) for <?20 if required but adding a phono preamp would most likely cost a bit more.

Cambridge audio phono stages start at about 50 notes. Had mine for years. Good stuff

                      maybe you guys are right...

Not sure you can even get amplifiers with both phono amp and the optical/hdmi output on the one unit!!!

Isn't it an optical/hdmi input you need?

Its only really higher end AV amps that have a phono input now, you may be best off going second hand, I sold a Yamaha dsp-ax763 recently that has what you need, they go for around ?100 - 150.

Wait, do you need an AV/surround amp or just a stereo amp?

I had assumed just stereo, but all this talk of optical and hdmi suggests AV amp.

I had this problem a few years ago, turntable wouldn't work on my digital amp as no pre amp. I just got myself 2 amps. Not everyone's answer to solve the problem but it worked for me ha ha
