    New Router Help

    Hi all,

Not being entirely tech savvy, I am looking for a new router as I'm finding the Superhub 2 with my Virgin Media less than ideal. So will just use it in modem mode.

Having problems with NAT on XBox ONE that no amount of port forwarding is fixing and PS4 problems too. Not to mention downloads that are quick, then drop to a crawl on consoles.

I'm wondering if someone can recommend me a decent router. Been looking on Amazon and Argos and see a few, but no idea what's best. Daunting some are over ?100, which I can't afford at the moment.

I have the 152MB package. Will need it to be dual band too.
Obviously be UPnP and have no problems with port forwarding as I want an open NAT. I use a PS3/PS4/ONE and a few devices will connect (including Apple TV's, iPad, Laptops). Also do some streaming from my WDCloud.

Anyone have a good recommendation for me?
Driving me nuts having problems with games recently.

It isn't cheap but fast enough to work with a 150mbs connection - Asus RT-N66U

?90 at Amazon at the moment.

A lot cheaper but I have seen it recommended often for Virgin customers - TP-Link TL-WR1043ND
    Read the reviews on Amazon.

The ?90 one looks good, thanks.

I hate routers as tend to always have some sorts of issues. I think I shouldn't skimp so will go for that one.
All I want is my normal speed I should be getting and open NAT's.

      Thanks.

If you want the ultimate in functionality and reliability for the N66U have a look at Tomato

Any idea how much better this is than using the Superhub 2 in router mode?

Significant as with the Superhub 1? I'm seeing lots of opinions compared to the first Superhub, but not the second.

I don't I'm afraid but the N66 with Tomato-USB is as good an anything out there.

Just found it at PC World and have Amex Credit. This is the same one, right? http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computi....html#longDesc

That's the one. Looks to be discounted everywhere as the updated AC ones are out.

Have you tried the DMZ on the superhub2?

                    Thanks smouty. Much appreciated.

I haven't tried DMZ. I recall someone telling me DMZ should not be used as it's not "safe". Not sure how true that is as I am not technologically minded.

It's not safe to put your PC in, but if you put the Xbox in it, it will be fine. Save you cash and should instantly make the Xbox work properly.
