    5.1 on PS2 GAMES

I`ve recently brought a dvd player and 5.1 setup. I still can't get the sound to come through my 5.1 setup when playing PES3 or any to be honest, only through the tv?
    What am i doing wrong?
What are the keys things to remember when setting up?
Have i got to change anything in the setup menu?
P's me off when mates have got it blasting through there 5.1! and i havn't.

Have you got it connected via an optical cable?

Also, as far as I can remember, the PS2 only offers 5:1 sound for cut scenes, not actual gameplay.

I have mine running through my 5:1 system, but only when selecting Dolby Pro logic Surround, and not using an optical connection.

      Scart cable connection.
Been told by a mate that on PES3 you can get it through on all (gameplay/replys etc).

You will never get digital sound out of the PS2 using anything but the optical cable.

Your scart connection will give you Dolby Pro Logic II at best, but I dont think PES3 support this.

Come on coopy get a grip, to get digital sound you need a digital connection between said devices, PES3 does not support any digital sound format(DD,DTS)
Give your mate a slap from every member of this forum

Even though your mate may have his ps2 connected by an optical(digital connection)for sound, the sound he is hearing is not "digital sound" especially with PES3.
Digital sound connections(Optical,Coaxial)are obviously needed for digital sound but they also carry analogue sound. This comes in various flavours Mono,Stereo, dolby surround, dolby pro logic, dolby pro logic 2.
The latter being the best by far and when done correctly, can sound as good as the digital formats(in gaming)
The ps2 can output digital sound ingame and one game does have a fullblown 5.1 soundtrack, it's a hockey game which title escapes me. Most others will have cutscenes onlyin 5.1(MGS2) or a 4 channel DTS 4.0 soundtrack like SSX3 GTAVC a few more do exist.
Dolby Digital and DTS does not automatically mean 5.1 they start at 1.0(mono) and go up to DD5.1 and 6.1 in DTS
If you can connect your ps2 with a optical connection you will always get better sound as the onboard DAC found in the ps2 is a bit naff to be honest. The one found in your amp/receiver will be or should be much more capable
