Xbox Live Questions

Had an Xbox for a while and after playing rainbow six 3 the other day round a friends with xbox live I feel the need to get hooked up to live.
I'm ofay with consoles but when it comes to PCs and broadband i'm pretty clueless.
i've searched the net at work for what broadband packs are about and i've seen a few. Tiscalli, demon etc none of which mention running xbox live. So can someone please tell me what I need to have and do to get upand running besides my xbox and a live kit.
BTW I don't have a PC at home is this a problem?

You don't actually need a pc if you go via the direct conn route, just a modem but you may as well get a pc if yr gonna get yrslf a bband conn, have a read anyway.
